One thing that most folks dread is attending a funeral or wake. Firefighters are no different. But we are very good at honoring our fallen brothers and sisters when in the line of duty. We line up in our Class A uniforms and polish the rigs. We drape the house in Black and get out the White gloves. But unfortunately we sometimes do not go to the same care when it happens to be a retiree that's been gone from the job for a long time. When the notice comes over the house radio at morning announcements the rookies and even "veteran" firefighter will remark.... "who's that? When did he retire? and then go back to mopping the floor or swabbing the toilet.
